Weil based The Story of the Wise Men and the Child, and The Very First Story Ever Told, on Biblical stories.

The Golden Spinning Wheel, and The Fantastic Toy Shop combine Weil's love of drawing and storytelling with her appreciation of music. The first is based on a musical poem by Antonin Dvorak. The latter is based on a ballet by Rossini-Respighi.

In both books, Weil integrates illustrations, text and musical notation.
